The Second Impact

Description

Along with the fact that I was watching Gravity, I was bored and couldn't sleep. When I'm in that state, I tend to draw a type of Science fiction space scenery every time.

Gravity had an influence on it for a simple fact; Space. That atmosphere, along with the overall unknown. That concept has always seemed interesting to me. I can't put it in words just how fascinated I am of the unknown world of the Galaxy. Yes, I know that I am a Zoology major, and animals fascinate me more. But ever since I was little, I've always loved the idea of sailing off in a little pod towards an alien world. But what did Gravity in particular have an effect on this drawing? The photography, cinematography, CGI, all those effect blew me away! It was beautiful, that's all I have to say.

Along with Gravity, the anime Neon Genesis: Evangelion had sort of an influence as well. I was thinking of an end of the world scenario (my mind is morbid like that) and for some reason, I remembered a phenomenon in the anime called the 3rd Impact. From my understanding, that's when all living races are eradicated from the face of the earth (correct me if I'm wrong). But back to the drawing, I thought about it and figured if an impact of some sort at a high magnitude collided with earth, that is sure an apocalyptic scenario. That's where the explosion interpretation of the piece came to be.

Overall, for a piece that was drawing while being sleep-deprived, I think it turned out pretty well done.

Duration of the piece: ~1 hour 40 min
